Turkey, Texas Travel Guide

Introducing Turkey, Texas! Turkey, located in the Texas panhandle, is home to just over 300 people. This small town is well known for being the home of Bob Wills, known as the “King of Western Swing.” Turkey is in the heart of red dirt country and is near Caprock Canyons State Park. Located near Amarillo, TX (1hr 35min, 100 miles), Lubbock, TX (1hr 30min, 100 miles), and Abilene, TX (2hr 45min, 175 miles), Turkey is a great day trip to learn history and see beautiful red rock canyons!

Turkey is a wealth of history. Visitors can stop into the Bob Wills Museum to learn more about his life and career. Also be sure to see the Turkey Roost Museum and Comanchero Canyons Museum to learn about local history. Stop by Goldsby’s Phillips Service Station, a vintage gas station that is no longer operational. Finally, head to Caprock Canyons State Park to see the red rock canyons. Hike, bike, and camp in the park and, if you’re lucky, see the Texas State Bison Herd.

Hungry? Turkey has a few options to fuel up. Grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Hot Turkey Restaurant for homestyle cooking, or head to Letty’s Cafe for Mexican favorites. Grab a drink at Turkey Creek Winery, or satisfy a sweet tooth at Tony’s Ice Cream.

Looking to stay overnight? Consider booking a room at Hotel Turkey. Need a whole place to yourself? Consider booking a Vrbo.  Here are some of our favorites: Turkey Home for 6, Homestead for 12, and Fern Cave for 4.

Want to visit Turkey but not sure when? Consider coming during Bob Wills Day!  Whatever you’re into, Turkey, Texas has something worth seeing.  We hope this travel guide gives you a glimpse into life in Turkey that can inspire a future visit.
