Prineville, Oregon Travel Guide

Prineville has lots of outdoor recreation opportunities to explore.  Book a tee time at Meadow Lakes Golf Course.  Consider a trip to Painted Hills, part of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, to see the multicolored hills, find fossils, and hike some trails.  For other hiking trails, head to Steins Pillar Trailhead or Ochoco Wayside State Park.  Also nearby is the Prineville Reservoir State Park, which offers boating, fishing, camping, and, of course, hiking.  If that’s not enough hiking for you, look to hit trails at Walton Lake and Ochoco National Forest.  More into climbing?  Climb the canyons at Smith Rock State Park.

For the indoor lovers, no worries, Prineville has plenty for you too!  Learn about local history at the AR Bowman Memorial Museum and head to the City of Prineville Railway Depot to learn about the railroad.  Prineville has lots of great shops to explore!  Head to Bayberry Lane, Sweet Willow & Co, The Wild Rose Boutique, Whiskey Darlin, and Juniper Canyon to shop till you drop.  Lastly, sample some fresh cheeses from Cada Dia Cheese!

Prineville has lots to do, which means you’ll need to grab a bite to eat while you’re here.  First, stop by Debbie Sue’s Cafe for breakfast and Prineville Coffee Company for a pick-me-up.  For lunch, grab a sandwich from The Sandwich Factory, BBQ from Crossroads BBQ Pit, Mexican favorites from Tacos Toledo Mi Tiendita, or burgers and hog wild fries from Dillon’s Grill.  This small town has quite the brewery scene!  Try local brews from Ochoco Brewing Company, Wild Ride Brewing, and Initiative Brewing.  Corral Taproom is another great option for craft beer and, if you’re lucky, some live music!  There are plenty of options for a nice dinner in Prineville. Head to Bonito Feast for sushi, Blue Duck Saloon for drinks and comfort food, or Nomad’s Brick Oven Pizza for a slice.  For steaks and seafood, consider Club Pioneer or Barney Prine’s Steakhouse & Saloon.
